Adding and Managing Signers
Every Tenrion envelope needs at least one signer. This article covers everything about adding and managing the people involved in a signing workflow.
Signer Roles
Tenrion supports three recipient types:
| Role | Can sign? | Gets final copy? |
|---|---|---|
| Signer | Yes | Yes |
| CC (copy only) | No | Yes |
| Approver | No (views only) | Optional |
Approvers are available on Standard and Business Pro plans.
Adding Signers
- In the envelope creation flow, go to the Recipients step
- Click Add signer
- Enter the signer’s full name and email address
- Optionally, add a private message visible only to that signer
Using Saved Contacts
If you’ve sent to this person before, Tenrion remembers them. Start typing their name or email in the recipient field and select from the suggestions.
To manage your contacts library: go to Contacts in the left sidebar.
Signing Order
Sequential Signing
Use this when each signer must complete before the next one begins:
- Set the Signing Order toggle to “Sequential”
- Drag signers into the desired order, or use the order number field
- Signer 1 receives the invite first; subsequent signers are notified automatically as each step completes
Common uses: Internal legal approval → client signature, manager sign-off → employee acknowledgement.
Parallel Signing
All signers receive their invite at the same time. The envelope completes when all have signed, regardless of order. This is the fastest option when sequence doesn’t matter.
Authentication Options
For sensitive documents, you can require additional verification before a signer can access the document:
- Email link (default) — signer clicks a unique link in their invite email
- Access code — you set a PIN or passphrase that you communicate separately
- SMS verification — signer receives a one-time code on their phone (Business Pro)
To set authentication: click the … menu next to a signer’s name and select Authentication settings.
Editing Signers Before Sending
You can freely add, remove, and reorder signers before clicking Send. Once sent, signer details are locked.
Reassigning a Signer
If a signer has left the company or is unavailable, you can reassign their signing action to another person:
- Go to the envelope in your Sent tab
- Click Actions → Manage signers
- Find the pending signer and click Reassign
- Enter the new recipient’s name and email
The envelope history logs the reassignment. The original signer’s access is revoked immediately.
Adding a Signer to an In-Progress Envelope
You cannot add a brand-new signer to an envelope that is already out for signature. If you need to add someone, you must void the current envelope and create a new one.
